“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”

Abraham Lincoln

What's New(s)?

Here are some IP Strategy Tips ...

Tip # 1:  IP is like a muscle.  Make it work for the business.

Tip # 2:  Develop your IP strategy in harmony with your overall business strategy, not in isolation.

Tip # 3:  Think of IP broadly as intellectual assets of the business - not everything receives a registration certificate.

Tip # 4:  Methodically catelog IP and relate each asset to the competitive advantage(s) the asset affords the business.

Tip # 5:  Conversely, examine what distinguishes the business from competitors for overlooked IP.

Tip # 6:  Sometimes who is more important than what.

Tip # 7:  Group IP through the eyes of the customers - around products and services, not IP type.

Tip # 8:  Be sure to look for IP assets that may not yet be written down.

Tip # 9:  Don't forget to consider licenses - both in and out.

Tip # 10:  Make sure your IP footprint stays at least one step ahead of your business footprint.

Tip # 11:  Adopt robust trademarks - make them distinctive, use them consistently, and jealously protect them against encroachment.

"Clients work very hard to create their future.  What I do is assist them navigate the shoals of intellectual property as they do."
